Fast and Abstinence: Catholics age 14 and older are to abstain from meat on Fridays during Lent. On Ash Wednesday and Good Friday, Catholics between the ages of 18-59 are asked to abstain from meat and to fast. Fasting means eating one full meal and two smaller meals, without eating between meals. One may dispense oneself from fast or abstinence for a serious reason (e.g. illness).
