Since 2006 the Dorothy Day House has been providing transitional housing for families that want to make a positive change in their lives. Our program allows the family to recover from a situation, which they found themselves in after an accident, illness, loss of a job or other unfortunate circumstance without the additional trauma of family separation. Our uniqueness lies in our commitment to keeping families together in a home-like setting and helping them achieve self-sufficiency and a productive life.
St. Peter Outreach through the Dominican Friars Outreach Fund grant helped us provide safe, secure housing and hope for 17 adults and 47 children last year. The majority of families served return to family stability, with a job, a means of transportation and housing. For these families who have been side-tracked by homelessness, this is a major accomplishment – one that really changes their lives.
