Ave Maria Home was opened in 1956 as a care home for women and men of all faiths. It was begun by a group of Catholic women, the Ave Maria Guild, who raised funds and saw a need to care for elders in the community. Ave Maria Home became a licensed nursing home and then seeing the need for a growing population of seniors in the community, the Ave Maria Home expanded into assisted living. The assisted living facility can care for up to 65 elders, giving them care and services to meet their needs. The National Green House Home Project was adopted which allows elders to live with dignity and receive care in a home-like setting with a hearth room, screened porch, central kitchen and private rooms.
St. Peter Outreach through the Dominican Friars Outreach Fund grant helped us provide an Ambry in our chapel to store the Holy Oils used for the pastoral care of the sick and viaticum for the dying. In addition, the funds helped with financial assistance to defray the cost of care for a Diocesan Priest who resides at Ave Maria.
