This special training is required for anyone who works with children, and is strongly encouraged for all parents, grandparents, aunts/uncles, and parishioners interested in the welfare of our parish children.At St. Peter Church, it is expected that at least one parent of all children/teens participating in our parish religious education, youth group, or altar server ministry have this training.
Volunteering for a Ministry involving Children: According to Diocesan rules, all those (18+) volunteering for a ministry involving children or teens must complete VIRTUS Training and undergo a criminal background check.
If you suspect that a child is in imminent danger, please call 911 immediately.
If you suspect a child or youth is being or has been abused, contact the TN Child Abuse Hotline 1-877-237-0004. Please note: In the State of Tennessee, everyone is a mandated reporter. All persons are legally required to report suspected cases of child abuse or neglect.
If you suspect, a child or youth is being sexually exploited online, make a report to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children's CyberTipline which is accesible 24 hours a day.
If you suspect a child is being abused by a cleric, church worker or volunteer,
FIRST, call the TN Child Abuse Hotline 1-877-237-0004
THEN, call the diocesan Victims Assistance Coordinator 901-652-4066 and/or Diocesan Director of Child and Youth Protection 901-359-2027.
The Catholic Diocese of Memphis in Tennessee encourages all victims, or parents of minors who are victims, of sexual abuse by a bishop, priest, deacon or diocesan employee or agent, to report such abuse.
